remember the fight I had with my mechanic last month>>
THIS IS WHAT I POSTED LAST MONTH:
have a 2003 Pathfinder- got it in july 2003
i have 30,000 miles on it and was dropping it off to check brakes. Now i knwo alittle about cars etc. I needed front brake pads the most..
This guy was trying to say that i needed front pads but he would have to cut the rotors and that it would take 3 hours and would cost around $375!!!! now i am not an expert but I flipped out- i thought that was too high for a front brake pads only.
I knew this place was a rip off but its walking distance and so convenient!!! Well needless to say I told him no way-I would pick up my car- then he started to tell me well if you dont want the rotors cut I wont?? Are u kidding me!!!!!
I stormed in there.. I was LIVID!!! just b/c i am a woman doesnt mean you can take advantage. I have had more cars and know more about problems on a car/truck!!!!
do you think the $$ was a little much???

UPDATE:
Well I took it to my dad's mechanic.. It cost me $250 for front brake pads, an oil change, new windshield wipers and rotationn of tires....
I didnt have to have my rotors cut...
SO i WAS GETTING SCREWED!!
Thank god I know enough about cars, parts problems to know I was getting screwed. I have had many old cars and have broken down too many times...
Its a shame that they take advantage of women like that. be careful out there if you take it to a place that you are not familiar with!!!!

this is why i have my fh take my car for an oil change. i hate the way i get treated. good for you realizing that you were getting screwed.

I'm glad you stood up to that guy! That's my problem, I don't know enough about cars. I'm sure I've gotten stuff repaired before that didn't need to be repaired. I've also noticed that most of the times I go the mechanic to get something fixed, something else ends up broken a few days later. It may just be a coincidence, but I'm skeptical.

I got charged $50 for a new filter when the guy told me I needed one and he put it in. DH told me he could have bought it for $10 and put it in for me! I was so mad!!!!!!

wow! it s^cks that I feel like I cant go to a repair shop without my dad or another male.. It stinks that I had to travel to my dads mechanic in Ct. just to get my car done to prove to myself that I was being ripped off.
Thank god I trusted my gut!

I usually assume most mechanics are trying to rip me off nowadays. I travel back to Queens to bring my car to my old mechanic who is so honest and trustworthy! Worth the trip for me not to always wonder.....

yeah,its actually the one in the West End!!- the one practically next to the Inn. they are under new management. before that i went there without any problems.
